Keys for Kids
program just the start Thursday,

Eleven students from the area celebrated
completion of the Keys for Kids music education program at a graduation
performance in Lexington on July 27.
The
students, ranging in age from 7 to 10 years, included Alexandra Kew of
Winchester, Christopher Smaling and Christopher En of Bedford, Kailee
Abeshaus and Elizabeth Heghinian of Burlington, Joe Blumberg and Jackie
Bologna of Lexington, Wendy Brennan of Maynard, Hana Vale of Wilmington,
and Margaret Dalton and Elizabeth Roche of Woburn. Some of the students
have been together for all three years of the program,
"All of
the students have made wonderful progress in a wide range of musical
skills," said Inga Magid, founder of the program and the children's
teacher. Skills include ear training, rhythm, solfege, reading music,
music theory, beginning composition, and, of course, playing the piano.
The goal of the program is develop a real understanding and appreciation
of music as well as the ability to play music. Courses are taught in small
groups, and parents attend along with their children.
All of
the children said they plan to continue with private piano lessons.
"I am
very proud of every one of the children," said Magid, "and it makes me
feel good that they have a great start on a lifetime of fun with
music." |
